*** For Sale : One Congressperson, Part Two - She's relentless in her Me-ism, and apparently a true believer in the theory that there is no such thing as bad publicity. In fact, Representative Cynthia McKinney has escalated to an opinion piece in the Washington Post, featuring much whining:

"I have been attacked for speaking." No, you've been attacked for saying things most Americans found offensive, if not downright idiotic. You have a right to say it. We have a right to be offended, and speak against it. In most cases, that's the end of it. But you will not let go. You are digging a hole that your next election opponent will use to bury you.

But, hey, it's your right to do so, and no one has tried to stop you, have they? Certainly not the Washington Post. As I've mentioned, in the country of your "good friend," the Prince, your words would never make it into print, in fact, you'd be beaten soundly just for speaking your mind, whether you were right or wrong. Here, we just talk back. God Bless America.

It is not your right to expect everyone to agree with you, or to get your panties twisted when others exercise their right to free speech in denouncing you. But this is the part that gets me, a nonpareil exercise in Me-ism:

"Why such a negative reaction to my letter? I believe that when it comes to major foreign policy issues, many prefer to have black people seen and not heard."

Tell that to Colin Powell. You know, the black Secretary of State, The Man in charge of "major foreign policy issues." People seem to be listening to him just fine. I certainly have been. Maybe it's because he comes across as a rational reasonable human being, who acts responsibly in his position of authority. Totally unlike you. Maybe you can chat with Condoleezza Rice about this as well. As a black woman who the President listens to every day, she might have a good tip or two for you..

Here you are, one of the 72 most politically powerful women in this country, yet you leap into the most pitiful refuge of those with weak arguments; "it's because I'm black." Given your position as a Congressperson, that "I'm Just A Victim" excuse merely paints you in a little brighter neon, for those who haven't figured you out yet. As for me, I wouldn't care if you were polka-dotted, you would still rank at the top of my Elected Idiots list.

d.: I don't think anyone cares what color McKinney is--but we do know that she's not red, white, and blue.

I haven't found out whether it's fact or fiction that there's a movement to remove her from office, but I'm trying to find out if it's true.

She doesn't even have the decency to answer email although maybe she's buried in it at this point. Then, again, maybe she never read it--why would she ever have to be accountable to anyone?

Dreama: I don't know what's more offensive -- McKinney's rampant self-centeredness or her pathetic attempt at creating racial tension to try to cover the fact that she's a moron. As a woman of colour, I find her comments doubly offensive - it's bad enough that we have to deal with racism and people not taking us seriously because of the tone of our skin, when we automatically throw the race card every time someone disagrees with something we've said, the impact of real race-based prejudice is dampened, and McKinney might know that if she got her head out of her posterior for two minutes in this big world.

How soon until her seat comes up for election?

Mel: Yep, she's a piece of work alright. Saw her on C-SPAN last night and seems now she's also trying to hide behind the feminist banner. She's the anti-Nute, and not in a good way. And I thought Lousisana spawned some crazy pols.
