Pixel Pile #20 Centennial Park, #2 This statue is the American Hellenic Educational
Progressive Association's AHEPA Greek "Tribute", with the Inforum
building in the background. In the summer of 1996, the Inforum
was the headquarters for the Atlanta Committee for the Olympic
Games, and this statue was about 50 feet from Ground Zero at
the Centennial Park bombing.

Pixel Pile #19 Cake Good, Fire Bad! As we get older, our birthdays become as
much a fire hazard as a celebration. Especially when your Loving
Significant Other decides it would be great fun to use those
candles you can't blow out. This generates a few seconds of
"ah, ha, ha," followed by three people trying hard to blow out
the candles before the smoke alarm goes off, ending with three
people frantically snatching burning candles off the cake and
flinging them into the sink with abandon while wondering which
of us should get the fire extinguisher.
It's scenes like this that make me thankful
my birthday comes but once a year.

Pixel Pile #17 Leaning Towers of Marthasville Marthasville was Atlanta's original name.
And the one on the left is a lighting tower in Centennial Park.

Pixel Pile #16 Olympic Legacy This child, likely not born in the summer
of 1996, plays in the Olympic Ring Fountain at Centennial Park
in Downtown Atlanta. A visit to the park on a Sunday afternoon,
4 years after the games, revealed many families and tourists,
a few vendors, the Barnum Kaleidoscope Circus, and a view of
the new development continuing on the fringe of the park. A
clean beautiful park now exists in the middle of downtown, where
a mere 6 years ago there was a patchwork of parking lots and
other forms of urban blight. It's an "Olympic Legacy" that benefits
me to this very day, literally, as well as those who weren't
even born then, like the child above.
